(Lakewood Ranch, FL)— Girls, Inc. is a new club available for girls at Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS).

Girls, Inc. is a large girls leadership organization, whose mantra is to inspire all girls to be “strong, smart and bold.”

The organization began in 1864, serving young women experiencing upheaval in the aftermath of the Civil War. Since then, they have expanded, connecting with millions of girls across the United States and Canada.

LRHS Student Support Specialist Molly Gummerson is the faculty liaison for Girls, Inc. and the program will be facilitated by Ms. Zaiya Bell, Director of Outreach – Manatee County.

Gummerson shared her excitement about the new group.

"Girls, Inc. has found great success in other counties, and we are the first high school in Manatee County to host this program,” Gummerson expressed.

Girls, Inc. meets in groups or one-on-one meetings for mentoring. Students will be divided into groups based on peer circles and pulled weekly during a non-core class.

Students can sign up by grabbing a consent form and info packet in the Discipline office (Building 2).

The program provides tools needed to find purpose in everyday life while embracing the challenges that females face in society.
