(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Testing season is underway for students at Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS).
As the fourth quarter begins and the school year comes to an end, students are heading into one of the most stressful times of the year - testing season.
With state Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) assessments, End Of Course (EOC) tests, Advanced Placement (AP) exams and final exams all approaching, the pressure is on across campus.
Organizing testing is no small task. According to LRHS Testing Administrator Jeff Simmons, one of the biggest challenges isn’t just the number of students; it’s the coordination and planning.
“It’s not just the number of students, honestly, it’s the number of proctors we need to administer all of the assessments,” Simmons said. “The state assessments, AICE exams, and AP exams are all at the same times and all have different rules for who can and cannot proctor.”

With so many exams happening simultaneously, scheduling becomes even more complicated; especially when students miss test days.
“That’s why it’s so crucial that students are present and attending school during the month of May,” Simmons explained. “If everyone was present and took their assessment, it wouldn’t be that difficult.”
To help manage this, the school has tried to move around these issues and help incorporate flexibility.
“We try not to test on Monday and hold those days for makeups,” Simmons said. “With State and AP exams overlapping, we have a lot of students who miss their State exams. It is easier for me to have a student makeup a State exam, rather than an AP exam.”
For students, this overlap of testing can feel overwhelming. That’s why preparation and attendance are key.
“Know your test day, prepare now for it (don’t wait), and be present of test day,” Simmons advised.
As testing season approaches, students are encouraged to stay organized, manage their time wisely, and show up prepared. Understanding the testing process can be beneficial to students being able to better navigate one of the busiest times of the school year.
