(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - AprIL1 is the one day of the year when being silly is expected. April Fools’ Day has a way of breaking the seriousness in people's lives, reminding them that it is important to mess around and have fun sometimes.

This holiday is commonly seen as a day for stupid pranks, but it has a deeper meaning than that. The world can feel tense or rushed, and having a day designated to just being silly is exactly what we need to change our perspectives on life.

It isn’t just about the jokes; it’s about perspective and understanding that life doesn't always have to be taken so seriously.

What many people don’t realize is that being silly and laughing with people in your life is what makes every day more enjoyable. When you laugh, your body releases certain chemicals that can help in tough situations or calm anxiety.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Junior Katerina Nino Demina shared "A good laugh is the easiest way to silence the commotion in the world around you. Whenever I get stressed, I like to joke around and remind myself that everything isn’t as serious as I am making it out to be.”

Just a simple joke can completely shift a person’s mood. It is a way to socially make a connection with someone on a different level.

Humor brings people together and makes them feel less of the need to be perfect. When there is a sense of silliness in life it is more common for a person to act like themself and not put on a front to blend in with others.

April Fools is a widely accepted holiday all around the world. Serious businesses and organizations participate, along with your everyday person. This holiday is inclusive, exciting, and memorable.

LRHS “Mustangs Ahead” journalism teacher Thomas Honsa said the holiday has a history even in the media.

“The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has a history of pranking people with stories like pasta farmers and driving dogs,” he said.

“Even here at LRHS we have a tradition.  Back when we still printed on paper, we produced an annual April Fools issue.  We’d put fake news in like Pokémon was the prom theme that year,” said Honsa.
