Scott Jeffers

During the public comments portion of the School Board meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, members of the staff and faculty of R. Dan Nolan Middle School asked the School Board to consider naming the school’s cafetorium “Jeffers Dining Hall.”

The proposed name would honor Scott Jeffers, one of the school’s founding staff members, who passed away last summer.

According to the name nomination form, Jeffers began his career at Nolan Middle School as an eighth-grade math teacher before transitioning into a school support specialist role. A proud military veteran, Jeffers dedicated 30 years to education. During his career, he served as an ROTC instructor at Florida Southern College in Lakeland and later taught at Lincoln Memorial Middle School before joining Nolan Middle School.

With the nomination now officially submitted for consideration, School Board policy requires the Communications Department to publish the proposed name on the school district’s website and distribute the information to the media. A minimum of 60 days must pass between the public presentation of the nomination to the School Board and the Board’s vote on the proposed name.
