Emily Davis — Mustangs Ahead

(Lakewood Ranch, FL)— Members of Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) staff received congressional recognition Monday.

Cara Misiewicz, the public affairs director for local Congress Vern Buchanan, presented Congressional Education Awards to eight recipients at LRHS.

Those awarded include -

  • Joseph Cuervo, vocational teacher

  • Rennie Finck, math teacher

  • Kristen Martin, registrar

  • Yesika Salcido, senior secretary

  • Meghan Sugalski, math teacher

  • Donna Thomas, social studies teacher

  • Bryan Thomas, science teacher

  • Julie Young, exceptional student education specialist

Misiewicz was accompanied by LRHS Principal Dusting Dahlquist and Assistant Principals Thomas Bellantonio, Dorlinda Carlson, and Becky Satterly to surprise the recipients with their awards.

According to Buchanan’s website, “Congressman Vern Buchanan established the Congressional Education Awards in 2014 to give special recognition to the outstanding educators, administrators, and support staff in Florida’s 16th Congressional District.”

The 16th Congressional District includes all of Manatee County as well as portions of Hillsborough County.

Misiewicz shared that staff are nominated by a principal or another educator in the school district. Nominees are then vetted through an independent selection committee and confirmed then confirmed by the congressman.

“We honor educators, administrators, and support staff every year based on their educational excellence, giving back to students, both in school and in their off hours,”
