(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) -- Holocaust Remembrance Day, also known as Yom HaShoah, is observed April 14, 2026.

The day commemorates the six million Jews murdered by Germany’s Nazi regime and its collaborators during World War II. It also marks the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, when Jewish resistance fighters defied the Nazis and fought for freedom and dignity.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) history teacher William Wallin said, “it will never happen again.”

Holocaust Remembrance Day corresponds to the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar.

The day focuses on honoring the victims, hearing survivor testimonies, and fighting against modern-day antisemitism.

In honor of the day, there is a national two-minute siren in Israel at 10 a.m.

The Office of the Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues states, “Each year across the United States, state and local government organizations, workplaces, schools, and religious and community centers host remembrance activities to reaffirm our nation's commitment to keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive.”
