(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Mustangs ice hockey was recognized for their outstanding season at a Tampa Bay Lightning game.

One of the highlights of this year’s Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Mustangs hockey season was getting on the jumbotron and being shown on TV at the game.

It was a great experience being able to be down by the ice and in front of everyone on the jumbotron.

Our team was recognized for winning this season’s Lightning Cup over Newsome Wolves 6-1. We ended the season 20-1 losing only to Cypress Creek.   The Lightning Cup is the championship of the Lightning Development League.

The Tampa Bay Lightning, in conjunction with the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), have invested more than $6 million since 2015 to grow the game of hockey and teach life skills lessons to Tampa Bay's young people.

As a reward for our outstanding season, we were given free tickets to the Lighting vs. Seattle game on Thursday, March. 26 at Tampa’s Benchmark International Arena.

They had a segment during the second intermission where the players went down on to the Lightning’s bench and took pictures and received a commemoration speech for their achievements as a team.

Mustang Senior Ayden Puzio said, “It was fun and great to see us recognized for all of the work we put in this season.”

The team is looking forward to next year and they hope to bring the Lightning Cup home again.
