Mairead Holland and Kaitlynne Welte- Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Many clubs at Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) are looking for students interested in leadership positions as well as new members.

One of the clubs looking for officers is the Model United Nations club. The current positions open are Under-Secretary-General (Vice President), Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations.

Mustangs who want to be in a club will raise their skills, awareness, and engagement when it comes to global awareness.

History teacher and club adviser Brian Ross said, “The goal is to grow the club. The foundation has been laid by a great senior class of 2026’ and now we want to expand. We want to expand civic engagement past what a normal high school student sees and knows.”

Applications are due on April 20. Students do not have to be a member last year to apply.

Meetings are held every other Thursday morning, and officer meetings would be the Thursdays they don't have meetings.

Another club to consider joining is Hope Ambassadors.

LRHS Hope Ambassadors is all about spreading a positive message and an accepting environment throughout the student body. They also put together various events and fundraisers to raise money for charities.

Public Relations Officer senior Andrea Toro said, “This year we’ve had fun events such as the pie contest to raise money for veterans, and the car loop signs with positive messages for our students.”

Toro added, “It is a great club to join because we actively spread positivity and kindness both on campus and off.”

Along with promoting positive messages, joining Hope Ambassadors will also allow members to gain community service hours volunteering at the various events the club hosts.

Students can apply to become a member at the beginning of the school year through a link in the club’s Instagram bio. All students attending LRHS in the fall are encouraged to look into joining Hope Ambassadors.

The National Honors Society (NHS) is also looking for officers. The positions open are President-elect (10th grade only), Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Public Relations.

Speeches for the positions will take place at the April 28 and 30 meetings. The speeches may not exceed two minutes.

An officer for NHS is subject to work hard enough to justify a title. Officers are expected to frequently and efficiently post community service events, stay connected with members and community leaders, and work side-by-side with other officers.

Junior Olivia Holden is considering applying to be an officer.

Holden said, “I think representing NHS as an officer would be an amazing oppurtunity that I am definitely interested in.”

These officer opportunities are a great way to gain leadership skills and to be involved in the school.
