(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Media Specialist and Academic Team Coach Audrey Dombroski held a bookmark contest that allowed students to design their own bookmarks.

The contest followed the theme of “Red, White and Blue: Celebrating the 250th anniversary of our country.” It was judged by two LRHS assistant principals and Dombroski herself, with over 50 participants.

First place winner was LRHS senior Isabelle Harrell.

Second place winner was LRHS junior Bella Duke.

Harrell was encouraged by Dombroski to share her art.

“I was given the pleasure of being a media center teacher's assistant through our school's internship program which really allowed me to know all the events and contests our media center was holding for literacy week,” said Harrell.

Harrell found winning first place in this contest to be very encouraging not only for her artistic career, but for entering other contests as well in the future.

The LRHS Media Center influences literacy as a source of books for all students. The library is home to almost 14,000 fiction and non-fiction books for students to access.

Dombroski feels like the contests made a significant impact.

“It was part of our Literacy Week challenge where we wanted Lakewood students to check out 250 books in honor of the 250th anniversary of our country. We far surpassed our goal. We had two contests in addition to the challenge: design a bookmark and a raffle for gift cards for every book checked out. We awarded 10 prizes to students,” she shared.
