(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) science teacher Tana Phelps invited MOTE Marine educator Emanuel Perry to assist in her Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science class Monday.

Perry has worked for MOTE for about five years and started off by interning in their undergraduate program. He discovered a passion for science and the marine world during his internship.

Perry started off by majoring in research and soon discovered that he excelled at public speaking, eventually leading him to start visiting students at schools.

“Sharing the knowledge I have about science with people is the best way for me to connect with them, and considering I have a close connection with nature, it is an easy thing to talk about,” Perry shared.

Phelps stated, “I have worked with Emanuel and others from MOTE specifically over the past year, and they have come into LRHS and helped teach my students about Marine Science.”

MOTE and Phelps worked together to combine the class curriculum with MOTE education, preparing a lesson plan that includes all the details that both Phelps and MOTE want to share with the students.
