(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Advanced Placement (AP) Research students finished their final AP Research presentations during the first two weeks of April.

With juniors and seniors having finished their AP Research presentations, they are doing final revisions of their papers, with their final research papers being due April 30.

AP Research is the second installment to the capstone diploma, with the first being AP Seminar. In AP research, students have to conduct a year-long academic research project and present their 20-minute presentations at the start of April.

This is a huge event in these students' lives academically.

The class is taught by AP Research teacher Tammy Harper, who shared, “It is always exciting to have students finish such a long-term project. Frankly, I also feel so much smarter. Each student has researched different topics of their own interests. In their study to become experts and contribute new information to the current community of academic experts, I learn a lot.

“My students work very hard and this is a difficult project with long term goal setting and a lot of self-determination required from students,” said Harper.

“I am super excited about next year's students as it is an opportunity to learn new things and to improve the process of learning. Next year, there will probably be another Research teacher as well so it will be awesome to collaborate,” added Harper.

Junior Johan Marines stated, “After completing my AP research journey, I feel relieved. It’s good to finally have it all done and not have to worry about presentations and finishing my papers. Now I'm preparing for my AP exams so I can get my capstone diploma.”

Junior Aiden Mandel said, “After completing my AP Research journey, I feel great. Finally done with probably the most important presentation in my life.”

The capstone diploma is a big academic move for these students.
