(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) junior Claire Sorensen Steps into Outreach Coordinator Role for “Mustangs Ahead” as senior Sophia Wiley prepares to graduate.

As the school year comes to an end at LRHS, the journalism program is preparing for an important transition. Wiley, the current Outreach Coordinator for “Mustangs Ahead,” will be graduating this spring, passing the role on to Sorensen, who will step into the position for the 2026–2027 school year.

During her time as Outreach Coordinator, Wiley played a key role in shaping communication and engagement for the program. She served as the club’s main communicator, organizing events and fundraisers while connecting with different groups across campus to promote Mustangs Ahead.

Reflecting on her experience, Wiley highlighted one important project.

“I am most proud of ‘Sophia Speaks,’” she said. “I have had so much fun filming videos and talking to new people.”

As she prepares to hand over the role, Wiley expressed confidence in Sorensen. She emphasized the importance of self-confidence, noting that while the job can be stressful, especially when meeting new people, staying true to yourself is crucial.

For Sorensen, stepping into the position is both exciting and meaningful. She said the role immediately stood out to her because it aligns with her personal goals.

“I wanted to learn leadership, communication skills, and better my ability to help the Mustangs Ahead program,” Sorensen explained. With responsibilities like fundraising and interviewing students and staff, she felt the position was a natural fit.

Looking ahead, Sorensen already has a clear vision for the program’s future. She hopes to expand awareness of school events and stories by increasing the amount of news shared with students.

“My biggest goal for next year is to get out as much news as we can,” she said, “helping students become aware of how much is truly happening within the Lakewood Ranch High School community.”
