Family, Career and Community leaders of America (FCCLA) has numerous Mustangs who are going to be competing at the National Leadership Conference in July. Each of these students has worked hard to take their project to the next level, and this series will go on to cover each team that has qualified.

Kayla Goodwin - Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Two Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) seniors at qualified in the National level for their Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) project.

Sisters Julia and Melissa Vendramini competed in Interpersonal Communications and together they achieved gold with a score of 99, taking first place overall. With their achievement of first place and gold, they are able to take their project to compete against others from across the Nation in Washington, D.C.

Julia said, “I cannot wait to go to D.C. with all of my friends. It is a very pretty city, and I love meeting FCCLA members from all over the country. I’m so excited!”

Their project aimed to help preschool-aged students learn the difference between verbal and nonverbal communication, along with being able to express themselves in both ways.

Melissa said, “I believe this project matters because it helps lay the foundation for social and emotional development, which connects to skills students will use for the rest of their lives.”

Julia added, “This was my favorite project that I have done because I loved watching the kids learn in real time as they learned to communicate their emotions.”
