(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) The 2026 NFL Draft finished on Saturday, April 25 and it saw top prospect Fernando Mendoza of Indiana University go first overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The NFL Draft gives football teams opportunities to “draft” college players into the professional ranks.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) junior and Denver Broncos fan Elliot Brumfiel said, “It was fun to see all sorts of talent from all around the country celebrate their dreams coming true.”

The first round, on Thursday night, saw eight trades take place with a total of 41 in the entire draft, the second most since 1990.

LRHS junior and Philadelphia Eagles fan Cooper Kelly said, “I’m so excited to see what Makai Lemon can do on this Eagles offense.”

LRHS junior and New York Jets fan Ed Grayson said he’s “excited to see what the Jets can do with their new rookies, especially David Bailey and Kenyon Sadiq.”
