reflections

Ranch Reflections are articles written by LRHS students and staff who want to share their experiences, thoughts, and concerns. This is a great opportunity for Mustangs to branch out beyond traditional news stories.  In this edition an LRHS junior reflects on the demands of standardized testing.

Ethan Schefft- Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Since seventh grade, my hardest test was always the Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3). I have consistently gotten scores that I am not happy about, until this year.

When the PM3 for my sophomore year was coming up, I was very nervous. So, I made sure to study as much as I could. I think I studied for a total of at least five hours, so I was expecting and hoping for good results.

On the day of the test, I was worried about what score I would get. I made sure to remain as calm as possible because I knew that this would be key to getting a good grade and passing.

When the test started, I thought the questions were surprisingly easy, and I thought I did really good on the first few.  As the test went on, I began to lose focus, and I started to panic, thinking I was going to fail.

When I walked out of that test room, I thought I would have been lucky to get a three. My hands were shaking so much, and I thought I was going to get a two. But I could only wait to see what I got.

The whole bus ride home I would constantly refresh to see if the results were out yet.

When I got home, I kept refreshing even more and then the results were finally out. To my surprise I got a four! I couldn’t believe my eyes. All my studying had paid off.

I had nearly dropped my phone out of disbelief. The key thing I learned from this is to always study before tests and to not lose hope no matter what the circumstances are.
