(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) freshman Jorja Lowe was one of only five students to receive a 4-year college scholarship through Florida Pre-Paid through the art and essay contest.

Her scholarship was presented by Governor Ron Desantis on Mon. May 18 at the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee.

Lowe shared, “I was very excited and shocked that they chose my essay. I felt very special to be able to meet the Governor in person and receive my award at the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee.”

Lowe’s essay was titled “Henry Plant’s Foundations of Patriotism and Prosperity.” She wrote about how Plant used Federalist ideas to help the development of Florida and the United States.

She chose the topic on Henry Plant because she felt he displayed all the characteristics of what the prompt was looking for.

Lowe shared, “I began by looking up famous Floridians in history and once I chose Henry Plant, I had to find as many sources as I could about his life and ideas.”

Lowes' goal is to attend Florida State University (FSU) and study law. “I am interested in becoming a corporate lawyer,” she shared.

Lowe also shared, “I would like to thank Mrs. Thomas (LRHS Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography) for writing my letter of recommendation and Mrs. Grant (LRHS English teacher) for helping me build my writing skills this year.”
