(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)— Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) held a new student orientation in two sessions at 10a.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 6 in the LRHS auditorium.

With over 600 people attending the morning session, this orientation allowed many new students and their families to learn about the clubs, academics, and athletics offered at LRHS as well as what to expect on the first day of school, scheduled for Aug. 10.

New student orientation featured an informational presentation covering topics such as LRHS academic accomplishments, student conduct, student drop off and buses, dress code policies, athletic opportunities, lunches, school safety basics, and, of course, first day procedures.

New LRHS Principal Mike Mullen left new students with a powerful message to get them ready for the upcoming school year. “At Lakewood Ranch we have a cover for every pot,” he said.

Mullen continued, “Get involved in clubs, activities, and organizations. That's where you meet your friends.”

LRHS Assistant principal Becky Satterly told new Mustangs they have certain standards to live up to.

“You represent LRHS whether you’re on campus or down the road at McDonald’s,” she said.

The presentation was followed by time for new students and their families to explore the campus and talk to returning LRHS students and staff.

“I’m excited to learn about clubs and it makes me more comfortable with the school rules. I learned a lot about the procedures and how to prepare to do my best,” said incoming student Daniil Para.

LRHS Empowher club officer senior Myla Adams said, “every year I look forward to new student orientation because it’s a great opportunity to gain new members.”

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Co-President, senior Gabriella Martinez-Reyes said, "I’m super excited about getting new students involved in FBLA to learn about an organization that’s become such a large part of my high school experience."

President of Chemistry Club, senior Gabriela Otero said, “I’m so excited for this upcoming year. The beauty of chem club is that members get to do fun experiments without the pressure of having to complete a lab for a grade.”
