(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - The Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) boys varsity golf team had their first tournament this week.
The boys teams finished second and sixth at the Venice High School Invitational, the second-place team shooting a combined score of 291 and finishing just four strokes behind Sarasota, who won the tournament.
The Mustangs second-place finish early in the season shows the programs' strength as they continue to build momentum throughout the season.
The sixth-place team shot for a total of 322, just one stroke behind Parrish.
Sarasota led the field with 287, while LRHS followed with 291. Jesuit Tampa finished third with 310, followed by Out-of-Door Academy with 318 and Parrish with 321.

Senior co-captain Donny Plakyda bested the field of 95 players with an impressive two-under-par 70. Freshman Declan Young fired a 73 in his Mustang debut. Leading the Silver Team was Pennsylvania transfer sophomore Trey Susa with 76.
The Mustangs will now turn their attention to the rest of their schedule, with upcoming competition including matches against New College at Royal Lakes on Aug.18 and 19, followed by the Mustang Cup at Royal Lakes on Aug. 20.
After the Mustang Cup, LRHS is scheduled to continue practicing before traveling to Riverwood Golf Club in Port Charlotte for another competition on Aug. 24.
With the season starting to pick up, the Mustangs will look to use their past performance as momentum for their upcoming matches.
