(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) bands welcome a new percussion director.

New LRHS percussion director Doug Moser was introduced to the LRHS band this school year. He has been in music for over three decades.

He describes himself as someone who is willing to put energy into percussion and meet the specific needs of his students. All of his experiences have led him to believe that with his broad understanding of the instrument, he can offer the discipline needed to succeed in band.

He was born and raised in Melbourne, Florida. Moser first discovered his love for music during high school where he played the trombone and guitar before he switched to percussion. This begins his journey to his passion for percussion.

After completing his Masters degree in Music at University of South Florida (USF), they asked Moser to help teach the drum line. He was there for eight years.

He has taught in several high schools, including Wharton High School and Sebastian River High School, where he served as percussion director and associate band director. He helped those schools compete in state and national-level competitions.

After 32 years in band, Moser said teaching has always felt natural to him. He said, "I had the passion really early on, so I felt like I would always figure it out.”

Moser hopes to build a strong percussion program at LRHS and maybe reach the national level.

He said, “I want to build a culture of working hard, not only for trophies but for each other.”

For Moser, teaching has always felt like home. He hopes to share his passion while helping students grow as musicians and as a team. His goal is to not only improve the musicianship of students but to create an atmosphere of hard work and dedication where musicians can support each other.

With his extensive resume and his strong admiration for teaching percussion, Moser is ready to begin this next chapter at LRHS.

LRHS Band director Dr. John Wilkerson said, “we are very excited for Mr Moser to be part of the Mustang family.”
