(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) social studies teacher Kyle Steinberg is asking teachers to educate their students by sharing a 9/11 commemoration video.
The video is made by the 9/11 Museum. Steinberg has used their material for the last five years. The video discusses the events of 9/11/2001 and then uses survivor stories to make it personal. The museum makes different editions of the video each year (with different stories and video footage from the day).
Steinberg said, “One of the aspects of the video that I think hits home with the students is that most all the people interviewed were regular citizens before the events of 9/11- office workers, firefighters, police officer, etc.”

On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists associated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes, carrying out coordinated suicide attacks against the United States. The attacks killed 2,977 victims, triggered sweeping global changes to security and foreign policy, and remain the deadliest act of terrorism in history.
This video focuses on the stories of the survivors because it shows a time in American history where the country was unified, even following a tragedy. The video and the stories of the survivors show what it means to be resilient and what it means to stand up for one another- despite obvious differences we may have.
“In my opinion, I think that some of the best sources for historical material come from the ‘everyday people’ who experienced it. While it may seem helpful to get the perspectives of world leaders' history is truly experienced and made by everyday people stepping up when they need to- I think that the cooperation and patriotism after 9/11 exemplifies this,” said Steinberg.
