(LAKEWOOD RANCH FL)- The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has partnered with the Florida Lottery to launch the “Student Service Challenge”, an opportunity for students in Manatee County schools to win money in reward for their contributions to the community.

Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Assistant Principal Becky Satterly said this is a “great way to earn money for completing community service hours.”

The School District of Manatee County (SDMC) is one of only 20 districts around the US to participate in this challenge, an exciting development for students who are active volunteers in their communities.

Spanning from Sept. 7 – Oct. 5, students must complete 20 or more documented community service hours, submit a student leadership essay, and meet all documentation requirements to be eligible for the award.

Up to 40 students throughout Manatee County Schools will receive a $500 award, funded by the Florida Lottery.

Students interested in this opportunity can complete activities such as environmental cleanups, food pantry support, tutoring, mentoring, and amongst other approved community events.

Students are given a choice between three essay prompts to write on concerning student leadership and civil responsibility.
