(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) - Around Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS), Mustangs are prone to notice large construction projects, especially near but not limited to, buildings four and eight.
LRHS Principal Mike Mullen is confident in the improvements these projects will make around the Ranch.
The construction around the campus was described by Mullen as an “ongoing process,” and wanted to alert families that there may be, “disruption to the learning environment.”
A plan to, “relocate classrooms in small groups at different times that will begin right after the holidays” was also outlined by Mullen as classrooms are thoroughly, and individually worked on which may cause, “a little bit of disruption.
”Larger projects such as new underground utility systems have been implemented, while smaller, but still important projects such as new field lights have been implemented simultaneously.
Mullen began by explaining how the new additions such as the LED field lights and new lights in band parking which replace the old lights would, "lower cost,” and be, “brighter and more effective.”
Lighting around the campus exterior has been touched up as well, and Mullen pointed out that, “It's nice and bright in this space.”
The new lighting will bring a welcome radiance to the ranch as Mustangs move from their classes.
One major project actively being upgraded at the Ranch is an air conditioning change out, which began last year. Mullen commented that, "it's going to take some time,” and that, “the next phase of that will be bringing underground lines up, over, and into each of our buildings to connect to the existing air equipment.”
LRHS has been around since 1998 and is “creeping up on 30 years old.” The school, Mullen recognized, “needs some updating.”

Mullen noted that throughout the school there had been “inconsistencies in our air conditioning system,” and that the new systems would, “eliminate,” those unbalanced temperatures and invoke consistent heating throughout the campus.
Mustangs and teachers will be able to enjoy “consistent temperatures and air quality in each and every classroom,” and that teachers will be at peace of mind knowing their classrooms are, "comfortable and conducive for teaching and learning,” Mullen continued.
Mullen hopes to achieve a “consistent air quality,” which he compared to a home’s ventilation system, that “equalizes the temperatures throughout the entire building.”
Mullen ended his interview emphasizing that the temporary hustle of construction around LRHS will, in the end be, “certainly worth the result.”
