Agriculture Foundations (8th Grade)

This course is designed to develop competencies in the areas of agricultural history and the global impact of agriculture; career opportunities; scientific and research concepts; biological and physical science principles; environmental principles; agriscience safety; principles of leadership; and agribusiness, employability, and human relations skills in agriscience. Laboratory-based activities are an integral part of this course. These include the safe use and application of appropriate technology, scientific testing, and observation equipment. Instruction is delivered through three major components: 
· Classroom/Laboratory instruction (contextual learning)
· Supervised Agricultural Experience programs (work-based learning)

Application and Agriculture teacher approval is required.

***This is a high school dual enrollment course for eighth graders that affects a student’s high school GPA. Students may earn an industry certification during this course.

FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those enrolled and interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of Agriculture Education. There is a yearly Lab fee of $35 and is a requirement of the class. This will include the New Horizons quarterly magazine, access to the student portal of FFA.org, National and State Fees, and a Haile Chapter Shirt.
