• The Social Studies department supports the goal of the Florida Council for the Social Studies to prepare our students to be “informed and active” members of society who become “citizens who possess the essential economic, civic, geographic or historical competencies to equip them for their future responsibilities”. The Manatee County Core Curriculum for the Social Studies in middle school includes grade level themes, Core Questions, Key Concepts, Instructional Pathways, Unit Performance Assessments and “Real-World” connections.  The curriculum addresses the Florida Core Standards.

In grade 6 our students study ancient history. This course concentrates on the rise and fall of several ancient civilizations. In grade 7 students enter a study of civics. In grade 8 students study United States history with a focus on European exploration through the Reconstruction era. All courses will have an end of course exam, or EOC.
