ABC Academy

(Agriscience, Business, and Culinary)

What is the ABC Academy? Agriscience, Business, and Culinary have combined to create a small learning community academy, known as ABC Academy. Statistics show that ten years after graduation, the highest level of education for over 60% of students nationwide is the high school diploma. For Manatee County’s students, the rate is 72% with only 28% completing college. For this reason, students are encouraged to complete a CTE program prior to graduation to compliment their goal of post-secondary education. The ABC Academy offers training for what will be growing areas in ag and culinary during the economic recovery.

How is this different from regular classes? Career academies are small learning communities designed to prepare students for both college and careers. Career academies link students with peers, teachers, and community partners in a structured environment that fosters academic success. Students participate in academy periods which focus on careers and encourage students to pursue post-secondary education opportunities. Each academy has an advisory council that consists of business, industry, educational and civic leaders in the community who are enthusiastic about sharing in the educational process. The group keeps high school programs current by matching industry expectations with relevant classroom instruction and activities.

Mission Statement

In the Agriscience, Business, and Culinary Academy (ABC), our mission is to explore our occupational interests while receiving job training and skills that will ready us for work or college.

The ABC Academy’s Goals

Students will:

• Be encouraged to complete a career technology program.
• Be encouraged to explore one or more careers in depth: research capstone project, Career Technology Student Organization {CTSO}, job exploration and career trips, etc.)
• Be encouraged to improve their grades and coursework to their highest ability.
• Develop marketable skills for entering the workforce after high school and/or pursuing a college career.
• Be encouraged to increase academic success though integrated lesson plans and/or team teaching of select units.
• Be assisted in setting personal academic goals and be provided post-secondary career and educational guidance through counseling and mentoring by faculty members.

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO's)

All of Southeast’s career programs have active career & technology student organizations (CTSO’s) that compete at district, state and national levels through virtual events.

• Agriscience: The FFA program has been ranked nationally with students competing at nationals in Land Judging. 
• Business: Future Business Leaders (FBLA) compete at the state and national levels. State winners have including individuals competing in Accounting, Business Ethics, Business Law, Web Design, Graphic Design, and E-Business.
• Culinary: Students successfully compete in SkillsUSA against post-secondary students.

  • Agriscience Technology - Agriscience students study the science and modern practices of producing crops and livestock from the natural resources of the earth.
  • Turf Management - Turf management is an ever-growing industry across the United States. Learn the science of how to plant and care for grassed areas such as lawns, parks, golf courses, and athletic fields.
