Personal Fitness / Team Sports

The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness. Knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in selected team sports (may include basketball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, gator ball, soccer, speedball, track and field, volleyball.) All students registering for physical education class and personal fitness classes will be required to wear approved PE clothing.
Note: These courses meet the PE graduation requirement for all students.
Weight Training 1-3
1501340 - 60/1410 | Grades 10 - 12
Beginning, intermediate to advanced weight training. Knowledge of safety practices, expansion of weight training programs by incorporating new exercises, increasing resistance and modifying the number of sets and repetitions. Knowledge of various weight training theories, knowledge of various equipment available in the field to develop muscular strength and endurance, knowledge of designing, implementing and evaluating a personal weight training program. All students registering for physical education classes and personal fitness classes will be required to wear approved PE clothing.
Weight Training 1-3 for PCHS Athletes

This course is designed for active members of PCHS sports team rosters. Basic weight training knowledge of safety practices, expansion of weight training programs by incorporating new exercises, increasing resistance and modifying the number of sets and repetitions, knowledge of various weight training theories, knowledge of various equipment available in the field to develop muscular strength and endurance, knowledge of designing, implementing and evaluating a personal weight training program. Prerequisite: Signature from current PCHS coach.
Volleyball / Recreation

The purpose of this course is to acquire in-depth knowledge and the application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in volleyball. Students will maintain or improve their fitness levels. Recreation is a course designed to explore a variety of physical education activities. Instead of focusing on one sport such as volleyball, students will learn knowledge and application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices in selected team sports such as basketball, gator ball, flag football, kickball, and tennis. Attendance, dressing out, class participation and exams will determine students’ grades.
Outdoor Ed / Basketball

In this course, outdoor education students will learn a variety of outdoor recreational activities that can maintain or improve health fitness. Outdoor activities may include orienteering, boater safety (boating license), ultimate Frisbee, Frisbee golf, tennis, wiffle ball, basketball, and capture the flag. The content will also include consumer issues and fitness activities. Attendance, dressing out, class participation and exams will determine students’ grades. The purpose of the basketball course is to acquire in-depth knowledge and the application of skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety practices necessary to participate in basketball.
Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries / First Aid and Safety

Students will learn the basics of athletic training, including care, prevention, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Instruction will include basic anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Students will be expected to demonstrate appropriate taping, wrapping, and bracing techniques. The purpose of the First Aid and Safety course is to enable students to acquire skills in First Aid, CPR, emergency care, and personal safety.
