PCHS Future Health Professionals Going to States
Emma Harlow – PCHS Bulletin
Parrish Community High School’s HOSA club cleaned up at the recent district competition, claiming the top three places in multiple categories and qualifying for states in Orlando from April 4-7.
HOSA, which stands for Future Health Professionals, is a global student-led organization recognized by many countries. The mission of the organization is to create an environment where students interested in the medical field can grow into aspiring doctors and use their talents to make the world a better place.
This was PCHS HOSA’s first district competition since the opening of the school, and it was an exciting moment for all the competitors. Advisor April Thornton was excited to see her students get into the competitions with full effort. The students moving on to states are Mia Polseno who placed first in dental science, Stone Griffin who placed second in physical therapy, Emma Harlow and Hailey Hornyak who placed second in forensic science, and Elza Anil, Cooper Korney, Visal Thach, and Sianalis Thomson who all placed third in the HOSA Bowl.
“I am really excited to see the new challenges that will be presented at states and to see the bigger atmosphere of competition” said Polseno.
States will have clubs from all over Florida coming to Orlando to try and qualify for nationals, which will be in Dallas, Texas. Those that place in the top three spots are eligible for nationals. The HOSA competitors practise every day to give themselves the best chance of winning.
