  • Advancement Via Individual Determination 1 (Course #1700390)

    1.0 credit – Grade 9

    Prerequisites: Application, 2.3+ GPA in middle school, good behavior and attendance in middle school, desire to attend college/university/trade school/other post-secondary institution

    AVID is an academic elective class that attempts to prepare minority, economically disadvantaged, and "students-in-the-middle" for college through a rigorous, tutorial program that focuses on writing skills, collaborative learning techniques, standardized test preparation, and note-taking, as well as awareness of college admissions and application procedures.  Other major components of the program include parental support and input, classroom tutors, and various motivational activities.  The selected students will have demonstrated academic potential which is determined by the AVID coordinator(s), teacher(s), counselor(s) and administrator(s), but may not, to this point, have the GPA that reflects this potential.

    1.0 credit – Grade 10

    Prerequisites: Successful completion of AVID 1 OR Application, 2.3+ cumulative weighted GPA, good behavior and attendance, desire to attend college/university/trade school/other post-secondary institution

    Prerequisites: Successful completion of AVID 3 OR Application, 2.3+ cumulative weighted GPA, passing score on Grade 10 reading assessment and Algebra 1 EOC, good behavior and attendance, desire to attend college/university/trade school/other post-secondary institution

    AVID is an academic elective class that attempts to prepare minority, economically disadvantaged, and "students-in-the-middle" for college through a rigorous, tutorial program that focuses on writing skills, collaborative learning techniques, standardized test preparation, and note-taking, as well as awareness of college admissions and application procedures.  Other major components of the program include parental support and input, classroom tutors, and various motivational activities.  The selected students will have demonstrated academic potential which is determined by the AVID coordinator(s), teacher(s), counselor(s) and administrator(s), but may not, to this point, have the GPA that reflects this potential.  AVID 4 builds upon AVID 3 and completes the final preparations for students as they prepare for life after high school.
