Update 12/13/2022USF has an excellent opportunity for graduating seniors who have been admitted to the University of South Florida and plan to enroll as full-time students in Fall 2023. USF is offering nine full-tuition scholarships to students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, have documented financial need, and have overcome significant obstacles. All scholarship information is available in the financial aid scholarship portal at https://usf.awardspring.com. Both scholarships below are looking for first-generation and need-based recipients. The George W. Jenkins Scholarship is named after the founder of Publix. It is awarded to incoming first-year students who have overcome a significant obstacle and meet the following criteria: agree to attend orientation and register as a full-time student at the USF Tampa Campus; Florida Resident and U.S. Citizen; completed the FAFSA and were determined to be Pell Grant eligible; agree to live on campus during their first two years at USF; minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship may be renewable for up to eight semesters, contingent upon applicants meeting necessary requirements.
The First Generation Brad and Terry Holcombe Scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students who are among the first generation in their family to attend college. First-generation is defined as neither parent having a bachelor’s degree. Applicants must meet the following criteria: agree to attend orientation and register as a full-time student at the USF Tampa Campus; Florida Resident and U.S. Citizen; completed the FAFSA and were determined to be Pell Grant eligible; agree to live on campus during their first two years at USF; minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship may be renewable for up to eight semesters, contingent upon applicants meeting necessary requirements. Both of the above scholarship programs are intended to provide, after all other awards are applied, full funding to complete a bachelor's degree in four years at USF. Only four students will be selected per year for the Holcombe Scholarship, and only five students will be selected for the Jenkins Scholarship. Each provides a community of support, including one-on-one mentoring, additional advising, community events, educational activities, and volunteer opportunities, and requires degree progression and a 2.5 minimum GPA to renew.

Information from your College and Career Advisor - Mrs. Hedgepeth
We hope all of you are safe and dry from this crazy week that we have had. Please reach out if you need anything. The school will do their best to help.
Starting October 1st, you are able to start filling out your FAFSA. If you have a few extra minutes, please go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and set up your ID. One parent will also need an ID, so grab mom/dad and check this off of the list. The earlier you apply, the more funds are available for you. If you have questions, please let me know. I still plan to visit classes in the coming days, but if you have time to get it done, please do.
Regarding the SAT, which was supposed to happen on 10/1... If you were signed up, please log onto the College Board and make sure they have scheduled you for the make-up on 10/15. If they haven't, you must contact them to get on the list.
For those students applying to FSU Early Application... I reached out to them about the postponed test and this is the response:
FSU is prepared to work with the students that have been negatively impacted by Hurricane Ian. For those students that are taking the SAT for the first time, we will be accepting the make-up test given on October 15th. For those that are retesting, we will be accepting new test scores until December 1.
It is still your responsibility to report these scores to the school!!!
Do not hesitate to reach out to myself or your counselor if you have questions.

FAFSA/Financial AIDE: Seniors - as you plan for "life after high school", one very important step is to complete the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Even if you don't know what college you will attend, or even if you are going to college, you should fill out the FAFSA. It will determine if you qualify for federal grants, loans or work-study. Don't think you can afford college? Complete the FAFSA and see if you might get a grant! Federal financial aid can be used at any accredited college in the US - including Manatee Technical College and State College of Florida. The FAFSA opens on October 1, 2022.
FFAA: In addition to FAFSA, all seniors should complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to be considered for state grants, including Florida Bright Futures. It only takes a few minutes but should be done before graduation. The FFAA also opens on October 1, 2022.
