Beginning Band (Band 1)
M/J Band 1 (#1302000)
Beginning Band students are first year band students. All beginning classes meet daily and use the method book: Essential Elements Book 1. All beginners, in one beginning band ensemble, will perform on the same day as the upper-level band students at both the Winter Concert at the end of the first semester and the Spring Concert at the end of the second semester. Both the Winter and Spring Concerts will take place in the Southeast High School Auditorium.
Students with little or no instrumental experience develop foundational instrumental technique, foundational music literacy, and aesthetic musical awareness through rehearsal, performance, and study of high-quality band literature. Instrumentalists work on the fundamentals of music notation, sound production, instrument care and maintenance, and personal and group rehearsal strategies. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. This course may also require students to obtain a musical instrument (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) from an outside source.
Intermediate Band (Band 2)
M/J Band 2 (#1302010)

Students may choose from the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. (guitar, piano, and drum set are instruments in the Jazz Band only.) As the students progress, the level of music becomes more challenging and the number of performance opportunities increase.
