The School District of Manatee County (SDMC) has a rich history of fostering a STEM culture within its schools – especially through the high school’s robust Career and Technical Education Programs. The goal is to extend the pipeline and focus on elementary and middle school students to build interest and motivation in STEM education.       

As part of this effort, SDMC works to implement a number of hands-on, minds-on programs including VEX IQ Robotics. VEX IQ Tournaments give students the opportunity to showcase their engineering skills, work cooperatively with others, and practice perseverance. 

The expectation is that these experiences will lay the foundation necessary to inspire and motivate students to consider the STEM pathway in high school through the district’s Career and Technical Education Programs and beyond.
