In response to continued acts of violence in schools and communities across Florida and the United States, the School District of Manatee County (SDMC) is committed to providing a safe and secure leaning environment for our students, staff, and all school community members. During the 2019-2020 school year, the SDMC joined all school districts across the state of Florida in adopting the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG), developed by Dr. Dewey Cornell. Each traditional and charter school located in Manatee County established their own multi-disciplinary Threat Assessment Team and all teams were then trained on the specific CSTAG procedures. This evidence-based model utilizes a problem-solving approach to determine how serious a reported threat may be, as well as the supports and interventions necessary to mitigate any concerns of future violence. Through a process of continuous training and support, school-based threat assessment teams are able to effectively address any reported concerns and help protect our schools and communities from acts of targeted violence.
School-based Threat Assessment Team members may find all training and support materials on the district's Safety and Security Portal.
For more more information or questions regarding the threat assessment process, please contact Mr. George Schrier or Dr. Skip Wilhoit.
